- defend the constitutional safeguards that protect the NYS Forest Preserve in the Adirondack and Catskill Parks.
- monitor state and local actions that could impact on public or private lands within the Parks.
- sponsor forums and conferences to inform, educate and collaborate in the search for solutions to problems affecting the Parks.
- manage a unique and extensive, publicly accessible Adirondack Research Library.
- sponsor public lectures and special events that link Adirondack and Catskill history to current events.
- publish the Forest Preserve magazine, newsletters and special reports
- enlist participation of youth as well as people of all ages in its activities.
