Saratoga Outdoors, the popular outdoor recreation clothing and equipment retailer on Broadway in Saratoga Springs generously awarded over a $24,000 grant to Protect the Adirondacks as part of its participation in the 1% for the Planet program. This support is critical for Protect the Adirondacks to help maintain and build our advocacy and independent public oversight programs to defend the Forever Wild Forest Preserve and wild spaces of the Adirondack Park.
“We are extremely grateful to John Nemjo and the whole crew at Saratoga Outdoors for their generosity through the 1% for the Planet Program. This grant will help our work all across the Adirondack Park to protect Wilderness, wild areas, wildlife, and help keep our waters clean,” said Peter Bauer, Executive Director of Protect the Adirondacks.
“Having started my business (formerly Mountainman Outdoor Supply Company) in the heart of the Adirondacks in a small abandoned pizza shop in Inlet, New York in 1993, we have never felt more a part of the Adirondacks as we do now. Having sold off our original locations in the Adirondacks in 2023, we still hold this unique region in our hearts and look forward to supporting Protect the Adirondacks in the years to come as they strive to keep it forever wild for us and future generations. We are happy to have forged this relationship and encourage all businesses in the region to do the same to protect not only the wild nature that exists but our livelihoods as we help thousands upon thousands of visitors enjoy it wonders every season of the year,” said John Nemjo, Founder and Owner of Saratoga Outdoors.
In 2024, Protect the Adirondacks joined 1% for the Planet. We were sponsored by Saratoga Outdoors, a popular outdoor clothing and equipment store on Broadway in Saratoga Springs. The store’s founder, John Nemjo, is on PROTECT’s Board and he is committed to 1% for the Planet.
The goal of 1% for the Planet is for participating businesses to donate 1% of their annual sales to vetted environmental non-profit organizations to help them do their work to protect the planet. Today, over 5,200 businesses participate in 1% for the Planet’s program contributing to thousands of qualified environmental groups. So far, over $655 million has been donated to help environmental work and causes around the world in 110 countries.
